WASHINGTON -- A massive encyclopedia documenting all things Appalachian and a country music oral history project received a boost Tuesday when the National Endowment for the Humanities announced its springtime grant awards.
Jean Haskell, project director of the Encyclopedia of Appalachia, said the $138,195 grant to East Tennessee State University was the last of the funding needed to complete the six-year-old initiative.
The 2,000-page encyclopedia, a compilation of entries from 1,200 people, will fill an academic need in the 13-state region, Ms. Haskell said.
