SUFFOLK -- When Joan Rodgers was payroll manager at Old Dominion University and lived in Virginia Beach, she planted a few flowers and vegetables as a hobby.
After moving to Suffolk nearly six years ago, Rodgers took root as a grower of all sorts of things.
``I had never seen peanuts and cotton growing,'' she said as she led a tour of 80-acre Somerton Creek Farm, owned by her and husband Dan. ``I was fascinated by it all.''
So she simply had to grow things, starting with herbs.
``I had so many herbs, I didn't know what to do with them,'' she said, so ``I started experimenting.''
