Las Vegas oddsmakers announced this week that Billy Bob Thornton in ``Sling Blade'' is running even with Geoffrey Rush in ``Shine'' in this year's hotly contested ``best actor'' Oscar race. In fact, the Arkansas native is also Oscar-nominated for writing the screenplay.

Thornton is one of the few in Oscar history who has been nominated for writing his own Oscar-nominated role - Orson Welles and Warren Beatty are the others.
