SUFFOLK -- Despite pleas from both Virginia Beach and Norfolk utility directors, the City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to delay action on permits crucial to the Lake Gaston pipeline.
The council did not discuss the vote to put off a decision on the permits for 30 more days. But the action came after several residents told council members it was time for Suffolk to assert its independence.
For nearly a year now, Norfolk has been trying to get permission to expand its Western Branch Reservoir Pumping Station and to replace a three-mile area of pipeline near Kings Fork Road and Virginia Route 10.
