For the first time in six weeks, a Big East team has cracked the top 10 with Virginia Tech vaulting to No. 9 in the USA Today/CNN coaches poll after Saturday's win at Miami.
While other conferences that form the Bowl Alliance have had teams in the top 10 virtually all season, the Big East began with Syracuse right at 10 in the Associated Press media poll, but has not had a team ranked among the nation's elite most of the year. Syracuse faded quickly with two season-opening losses, and Miami was in the top 10 for a few weeks before falling to Florida State in its fifth game.
