DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. _ David Culp falls into new flirtations every year. Some of his passions even develop into obsessions. But his true love never changes.
Hellebores.
"They have been with me forever," the Chester County, Pa., breeder says of the plants most of us once knew only as Christmas rose or Lenten rose. He has even lent his name to some offspring of this botanical love affair _ DLC Hybrids, hellebores hybridized in the garden of David Lee Culp.
"I think that they are an acquired taste, like an aged Scotch or a fine cheese," Culp says as he ponders the plants' appeal.
