Emergency officials spent another day Sunday nervously watching the swollen Mississippi River spill over more roads, wash out trails and cover boat landings.
The river had risen to 15.6 feet by noon Sunday at La Crosse, more than three feet above the 12-foot flood stage.
"It's starting to go faster," La Crosse Emergency Management Coordinator Al Spaulding said. "It's still going up."
The latest forecasts call for the river to crest near 17 feet Wednesday, up from original predictions of 16.5 feet, meteorologist Dan Baumgardt said.
The highest river level on record in La Crosse is 17.9 feet, set in 1969.
