Dell (Nasdaq:DELL) today announced that it is offering 15-inch flat panel monitors for $499 when purchased with a Dell OptiPlex(tm) desktop or Precision(tm) workstation system.

The new, lower price is a result of Dell carrying only five days of inventory and being able to quickly pass savings from component price decreases directly to customers. The same monitor sold for as much as $999 in September 2000 and $699 in February 2001.
