Salsa's History on Video

After years of researching the history of uptempo Latin dance music (now recognized as salsa), Claire Wachsman, a young Cuban music aficionado, completed a film of salsa's history. On Thursday, September 28, 2000, at 8 p.m., a preview of the documentary was shown on the third floor roof at 74 Varick Street in New York City. Ms. Wachsman, who speaks fluent Spanish and dances mambo like a native Cuban, filmed musicians speaking about salsa including Cuban vocalist Rudy Calzado, conga drummer Cándido Camero, percussionist Louie Bauzo, José Madera Jr., vocalist Miguel Quintana, Machito, Mario Bauzá, Joe Cuba, Pete Terrace and trumpeter ...
