Honda's CR-V, built on the Civic platform, suffers from acute shortness of breath. "Needs more power," was the mantra of almost half of the CR-V owners that we surveyed for this report.
Actually, Honda was well aware of the deficiency and the mini SUV has 20 more horses today than it did when Honda introduced it in February 1997. At that time, the Acura Integra-derived, four-cylinder engine developed only 126 hp. Today, it puts out 146 hp at 6200 rpm and 133 ft.-lb, of torque at 4500 rpm.
