BALTIMORE - Two days after a disappointing start in which his velocity was noticeably down, Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Sidney Ponson was placed on the 15-day disabled list yesterday with tendinitis in his right elbow.
"We're doing this as a preventative measure," Orioles vice president of baseball operations Syd Thrift said before last night's game against the Cleveland Indians. "It's a mild case of tendinitis, but we want to take every precaution with Sidney this early in the season."
