NEW YORK POWER AUTHORITY RESPONDS TO LETTER FROM DOE

NEW YORK, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by New York Power Authority Chairman Richard M. Flynn:

We have received the letter from the deputy secretary of the Federal Department of Energy (DOE) offering his legal opinion on the participation by the New York Power Authority in the decommissioning of the Shoreham nuclear power plant.

While we disagree with most of the deputy secretary's conclusions, we agree on one point: the responsibilities of public officials to abide by "duly enacted laws that establish public policy." We intend to do so.
