NEW YORK-Writing a book can be a full-time job. So is running a magazine. Margaret Russell, Elle Decor's editor in chief, recently managed to do both.

Russell was appointed editor last year, stepping up from her position as design and decoration editor, when former editor Marian McEvoy left for the editor's position at House Beautiful.

Taking the reins while in the midst of completing her book, "Designing Women" (Stewart Tabori & Chang), was no easy feat. The book required a great deal of travel for interviews and to oversee photo shoots.
