NEW YORK-Retailers are raising their glasses to a booming business in barware.

"It's become a strong category, which last year saw growth above the company curve," said Laura Aldrich, senior buyer for Kitchen Etc. "I think it will continue to be strong."

The market is almost stealthy: hard to track in total because barware and wine accessories are sold through a variety of channels, ranging from small wine shops to gourmet food stores up to department stores and mass merchants.

In fact, Simon Kirby, president of Vacu Vin, said he's had success marketing his wine accessories by targeting buyers outside the traditional housewares areas.
