POOR DERIVATIVES DEMAND HAS PUT A BRAKE ON THE CLIMB IN caustic soda prices, market sources say. Caustic soda prices have climbed about $250/ton during the past nine months, to $280-$340/ton fob. A $50/ton increase for April 1 has been only partly successful, however, say sources.
Some producers say they have managed to push through average hikes of $25/ton but others are still trying to move prices up. The increase has largely been limited to buyers paying at the low end of the price range, bringing April contract prices to $305-$340/ton fob.
