SOLVAY HAS PURCHASED A 15% STAKE IN START-UP COMPANY ECOPHOS (Louvain la Neuve, Belgium), which says it has invented a low-cost route to food-grade phosphoric acid, sodium phosphates, and other phosphate salts used in agricultural and industrial applications. The EcoPhos "rock attack" process uses wet phosphoric acid to convert phosphate rock and hydrochloric acid (HCI) into phosphates.
