While legislation repealing the estate tax breezed through the House of Representatives last week, it could be a much different story in the Senate.
"The House vote was a foregone conclusion," says David Winston, vice president of government affairs for the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Falls Church, Va. "No one expected a different outcome."
However, Winston says, "It will face much tougher sledding in the Senate."
The estate tax repeal bill, H.R. 8, passed the House by a 274-154 vote, with 58 Democrats joining 216 Republicans in support.
