KANSAS CITY, Mo. _ Somewhere inside Arrowhead Stadium on Wednesday evening, Wizards soccer coach Bob Gansler will watch the U.S. men's national soccer team battle Costa Rica in a World Cup qualifier.
For a few minutes before the game starts, a soft smile might break out on Gansler's face. A gleam may appear in his eyes. He'll radiate the look of winner, and it will have nothing to do with the eventual outcome of the game.
More than 30,000 fans, some showing their patriotism by painting themselves red, white and blue, or enthusiastically waving the American flag, will remind Gansler how much soccer has grown in the United States.
