Following the recent demise of New Zealand domestic carrier Tasman Pacific Airways, which had operated under a Qantas franchise, Qantas has taken steps towards entering the New Zealand domestic aviation market.

Qantas, an Australian carrier, has indicated that will offer flights between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in New Zealand, with the services starting on 30 April. The move places Qantas in direct competition with Air New Zealand in both the Australian and New Zealand domestic markets.
