DARWIN, April 24 Asia Pulse - Having a Liberal-endorsed federal election candidate as chair of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee seriously compromised Australia's international reputation and environmental credentials, according to the Northern Territory Environment Centre.

Australian environmental groups have called on Sydney barrister Peter King to stand down as chairman of both the World Heritage Committee and Australian Heritage Commission since he was preselected in February to contest the blue-ribbon seat of Wentworth.
