The foundation for potentially revolutionary new treatments for heart attack, the leading killer of US men and women, has been laid by 3 trials that used adult bone marrow stem cells to repair damaged heart tissue in animals.
In one of the studies, stem cells transformed into new blood vessels that rescued dying heart cells near the heart attack (infarct) area.
