WASHINGTON _ Music industry executives have broken their promise to Congress to curb the marketing of violent and sexually explicit material to children, says a new federal report.
The Federal Trade Commission's finding, released Tuesday, comes as the families of several victims of the April 1999 Columbine High School massacre in Colorado filed lawsuits against 25 entertainment companies that market violent video games and sex-oriented Web sites. The $5 billion suit claims the companies' products helped provoke the two gunmen who killed 12 other students, a teacher and themselves.
