An ambitious endeavor for a two-day event, New York University's (NYU) conference attempted the process of "Evaluating the Photography of Fact: Document, News, and Art, 1850-2000." Anne Hoy, conference organizer, explained that the first three such events (in 1995, 1998 and 1999) stressed the artistic side of the medium, examining work from Man Ray to Alfred Stieglitz to Andres Serrano.
