The Kuwaiti parliament is the only elected legislative body in the six GCC states, though Qatar is moving towards creating an elected Parliament and Oman's advisory council has a partially elective nature. Ironically, the relative freedom for political activity that is allowed in Kuwait is proving to be an effective check against the spread of radical Islamic ideas.
It is important to note that, unlike Saudi Arabia or Bahrain in recent years, Kuwait has not seen any sustained violence related to militancy. On the contrary, the activism has been limited to the parliament floor and to criticisms in the media.
