THE BON AND F&N EYEING CANADA'S FERTILE MARKET
SEATTLE -- With the Pacific Northwest already overstored and underpopulated, The Bon and Frederick & Nelson are eyeing Canada as a fertile market for expansion.
Both stores are in early stages of planning to open stores around the mid-Nineties in Vancouver, which is 150 miles from here.
The free-trade agreement between the U.S. and Canada, which went into effect Jan. 1, is an important catalyst. No American department stores are currently operating in Canada, though Sears, Roebuck & Co. a mass merchandiser, has stores throughout the country.
