Jason Roberts' 16th minute equaliser ensured Albion reached the Division One play-offs - Fulham drew 1-1 with Wimbledon.
But this was a curious performance from the home side who began strongly but seemed to lose enthuiasm the longer the game went on.
Huddersfield anxious to earn at least a point in their battle to escape from relegation, played at a quality far beyond their station and, indeed, had much the better of the middle section of the match.
