Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia are linked by a viral etiology. Chronic fatigue syndrome is the current name for a disorder characterized by debilitating fatigue and a variety of associated physical, constitutional, and neuropsychological complaints (see Table 1). The medical literature of the past three centuries informs us that this is not a new type of syndrome.
