PITTSBURGH -- In the mind's eye, the Pittsburgh baseball past isn't far away, just two long blocks from PNC Park. But Three Rivers Stadium, where the Pirates played since 1970, is gone, imploded into history and replaced by something alluring and exquisite.
PNC Park is cozy and attractive, descriptions that never applied to Three Rivers, the functional, dual-purpose bowl that was home to to the Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers. Where Three Rivers appeared to have fallen from the sky and made a middle-of-nowhere landing, PNC Park is nestled on an urban site, bounded by three streets and the Allegheny River.
