LAS VEGAS--A battle is widening between direct broadcast services (DBS) providers and local broadcasters about which viewers are eligible to receive distant network signals.
The venue for the clash was a panel discussion about DBS and local stations at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention here last week. Local broadcasters stood from the audience to hurl blistering criticism about DBS retailers who are accused of making false promises that consumers can receive waivers to watch distant network signals merely by asking local stations for a nod.
