If last week's charges and counter-charges between IBP inc. and Tyson Foods Inc. are an example of how nastily the companies break up an engagement, it's probably fortunate that they didn't put the acquisition together.

IBP, in a lawsuit filed following Tyson Foods' announcement that it had canceled its proposed acquisition of IBP, said Tyson Foods had "buyer's remorse" and "clearly no basis for (its) claims that it was fraudulently induced" into the merger agreement and that it "does not have to proceed with the transaction."

IBP asked the court to order Tyson Foods to complete the acquisition.
