Italy's Brenner Autostrada has been the subject of much delay over the years, first due to the slowdown in the construction industry in the early 1990s, and then because of lack of funding.
The Mori bypass that will replace a part of the SS 240 to Lake Garda is amongst the sections that were late off the mark. In fact, it is some ten years late, with contractor Cariboni having started construction only in October, 1999.
The project includes an intersection with the motorway, and a bridge across the motorway, river and railway, together with a twin tunnel at Rovereto comprising 2.2 km-long, two-lane 90 sq m tubes.
