The Australian Hotels Association (AHA) has stated that the proposed tie-up between Qantas and Impulse Airlines would not benefit tourism or airline competition.

Stephen Lynch, the AHA national tourism and accommodation manager said on 2 May: 'This withdrawal of independent operations and of certain services is a great disappointment to Australia's tourism industry, which was enjoying the increase in air travel spurred on by the new competitors.' Lynch also stated that he hoped no-frills carrier Virgin Blue would continue to operate and increase competition, AAP reported.
