May 3--MANATEE, Fla.--A billboard on U.S. 19 in Clearwater reads, "Good teachers are taking this road to Georgia. Let's keep them in Florida!"
Manatee County might not be losing teachers directly to Georgia, but county teachers are going down the road in alarming numbers. In recent years, the county has had to replace 200 teachers a year, double the number from three years ago, Pat Barber, president of the Manatee Education Association, said Wednesday.
The billboard, paid for by an affiliate of a statewide teachers union, has let the nation know Florida is doing a poor job ...
