The family of a Detroit woman who died after she was held for suspected shoplifting has filed a $1 billion wrongful death lawsuit against the Rite Aid drugstore chain.

Alwanda Gail Person-Jackson, 36, died at the drugstore after she struggled with security guards and store personnel when she tried to leave with what was believed to have been a shoplifted Conair hair product and cheap cigars.

According to police, Person-Jackson walked out of the eastside Rite Aid and a female security guard followed her to a van, where a scuffle broke out, reports the Detroit News.
