Lowell-born writer Jack Kerouac, who died in 1969, has recently been in the news.
On May 22, the 1951 manuscript of his 1957 novel "On The Road" will be sold at auction. The auction house, Christie's, has estimated the manuscript will earn $1 million to $1.5 million.
I would, however, like to focus briefly on a lesser-known Kerouac book: the 1961 work, "Book of Dreams," a record of Kerouac's dream-life.
In reading "Book of Dreams" some years ago, I came upon a disturbing sentence - in fact, only a clause in a sentence. Within this sentence fragment, a particular Kerouac world - a repugnant one - was hinted at.
