Foreign investment in Iran has become a simpler process. Indeed, Iranian officials and diplomats are lobbying hard, especially for investment in the hydrocarbon sector. Foreign investors can choose between three different options, namely: (1) investment under the Law for Attraction and Protection of Foreign Investment (LAPFI), (2) investment in the Iranian mainland without the protection of LAPFI, and (3) investment via the Free Trade Zones. The law also says expropriation or nationalisation will be fairly compensated by the government. Moreover, foreign investors may repatriate profits once a year.
