This investigation preliminarily explored the level of perceived academic stress among first timer undergraduates in Federal Universities in Nigeria during the 1997/1998 academic year. The influence of such variables like, gender, admission process, students accommodation provision, academic discipline and socio-economic background of the subjects on academic stress was investigated. One thousand two hundred first timers from five universities stratified-randomly selected were intensively studied.
