US District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson awards former hostage Terry Anderson and his family more than US$341m in damages in his lawsuit alleging that Iran was behind his 1985 kidnapping in Lebanon. (The award against Iran may turn out to be largely symbolic as no money ever has been collected under the 1996 law that allows Americans who are victims of terrorist acts abroad the right to sue foreign countries in US courts.)
