It is a simple and inexpensive weapon against one of the world's top killer diseases. Brought to fruition by scientists in Bangladesh, it is the kind of solution to global health problems that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation wants to champion.
And it is literally a solution - of sugar and salt.
Today, the Gates Foundation will announce that it has awarded its first $1 million Global Health award to the Centre for Health and Population Research in Dhaka, Bangladesh, for its key role in developing oral rehydration therapy in the 1960s.
