Utah's Jobless Rate Rises to 3.9 Percent in April.

May 5--Utah's unemployment rate surged to 3.9 percent in April -- up from 3.5 percent in March -- showing that the state's economy is slowing but still outpacing much of the nation.

Nationally, unemployment increased to 4.5 percent in April, up from 4.3 percent in March, the U.S. Labor Department reported. April's unemployment was the highest rate in 2 1/2 years and revived fears of a recession as companies shed the largest number of jobs in a decade.
