Data being presented today at the American Psychiatric Association annual meeting suggest that the atypical antipsychotic SEROQUEL(R) (quetiapine fumarate) Tablets, a product of AstraZeneca (NYSE: AZN), is more effective than haloperidol in treating patients with schizophrenia resistant to fluphenazine, a conventional antipsychotic medication. Compared with haloperidol, SEROQUEL patients experienced fewer extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) -- a common debilitating side effect of conventional antipsychotics -- and decreased prolactin levels(1). SEROQUEL Tablets are indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia.
