May 6--It has taken almost two years and at least HK$10 million (UKpound 900,000), but Hong Kong is finally ready to reveal a new image. However, despite all the effort, its new identity is unlikely to be that different from the old. It is supposed to reinforce Hong Kong's claim to be the only world-class city in Asia, yet that was never really an issue -- at least from a financial point of view.
Culturally, however, Hong Kong lags well behind London and New York. The government and private sector must accept that well-endowed art galleries, as well as quality international ...
