TOKYO, May 8 Asia Pulse - Japanese pharmacy operators Cawachi Ltd (TSE:2664) and Sundrug Co (TSE:9989) have signed a joint purchasing agreement, and said they might develop private brand products together in the future.

They aim to improve their chances against two rival drugstore chains -- Matsumotokiyoshi Co (TSE:9875) and the Aeon group consisting of Jusco Co (TSE:8267) and 11 others. Drugstores are locked in a fierce battle of expansion and price cuts.
