May 8--Kriss Cloninger III has become the first person outside the extended Amos family to hold the title and responsibilities of president of Aflac Inc.
The board of directors for the Columbus-based insurer voted Monday to promote Cloninger to the company's second in command. The move was one of several announced in the wake of chairman Paul Amos' retirement, which became effective at Monday's annual shareholders meeting.
