Standards and the methods used to assess conformity to standards are essential parts of U.S. infrastructure. They are vital to industry and commerce, crucial to the health and safety of Americans and basic to U.S. economic performance. American National Standards Institute (ANSI) coordinates the U.S. standards system, bringing together the public and private sector interests to develop and use voluntary consensus standards for products, processes and services to support the needs of U.S. citizens and industry competitiveness.
ANSI recently adopted a National Standards Strategy (NSS), noting that the system faces new challenges.
