Article: New Osteoporosis Drug Appears to Build Bone.

May 10--Eli Lilly and Co.'s experimental drug Forteo appears to do something better than any osteoporosis drug on the market: actually build bone, even in frail, elderly women whose bones are so brittle they can break from a hug.

"It's the first demonstration of the concept that stimulating bone formation is going to be an effective way to treat osteoporosis in humans," said Dr. Robert M. Neer of Massachusetts General Hospital, who directed a two-year study of Forteo.

Results of the study are published in today's issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
