May 11--To say that drumming up dollars for young technology companies was difficult in the first quarter is a huge understatement.
Investments by venture capital firms plunged 79 percent in Florida during the first quarter of 2001.
Yet, 18 companies in the state, including seven South Florida firms, managed to score money from individual investors and venture funds. They raised a total of $99.9 million.
