Hospital to expand cardiac care.(News)

Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington plans to make a major upgrade in the cardiac services it provides, announcing it will spend $5.4 million on a new cardiac catheterization lab.

Good Shepherd has long offered minimal cardiac diagnostics and a well established rehabilitation program, but it is now hoping to offer the ability to assess the condition of a patient's coronary arteries using invasive procedures.

Those procedures include catheterization, which consists of inserting a long plastic tube into a patient's arteries and into the heart, then injecting a dye to highlight on X-rays any blockages, said Dr. ...
