May 14--The city of San Jacinto, the Soboba tribe and a sand-and-gravel company are mining for a compromise with irate neighbors that will allow the operation to keep on trucking.
The gravel pit on the Soboba Band of Mission Indians reservation is the tribe's second-largest source of revenue, according to Tribal Chairman Robert Salgado. Only the Soboba Casino produces more income, he said.
San Jacinto Aggregates Inc. has mined the pit under a lease with the tribe since 1986. But neighbors are complaining about the noise, unsafe traffic conditions and ...
