DALLAS -- Supermarket pharmacy continues to be a growth industry, according to the latest research from the Food Marketing Institute (FMI).
Chains polled for the FMI's 2001 Supermarket Pharmacy Survey, due out later this year, are projecting a 7.8% growth in the number of pharmacies they operate over the coming year.
That is down from the 12% projected growth rate reported in the 2000 survey. But it is still evidence that despite falling margins and growing regulatory burdens, many supermarket chains remain committed to playing a role in the prescription drug business.
